Ensure staff can access appropriate dietary advice for pregnancy, young children and frail older adults

For advice on maternal and child nutrition:

  • Refer to NICE guidance on maternal and child nutrition (PH11) and associated quality standard (QS98).
  • When discussing a child's diet or weight, advice given about healthy eating should take a whole family approach given role modelling is important, so supporting behaviour change for families living with overweight or obesity may need priority.
  • Encourage woman to breastfeed (see also CRF-002).
  • Promote the Every Child 10 Steps to a Healthy Weight; support resources are available for download (see also CRF-002).

For advice on nutrition for frail older adults:

  • Nutrition in community settings (WAG 2011) describes Good Food First advice to avoid malnutrition in community (e.g. care home) settings.
  • A Food First guide produced by the ABUHB Community Nutrition Support Team is available for download.
