Alastair Roeves

Alastair Roeves is National Clinical Lead for Primary Care & Community Services, working in the Strategic Programme for Primary Care in Wales. In this role, he focusses on how services in primary care can be delivered differently to produce better outcomes and experiences for patients and professionals. He supports the Associate Medical Directors (AMDs) in Primary Care across all Health Boards to become an effective voice of primary care medical management influencing policy and implementation across Wales. During the COVID pandemic, he supported national development of the community COVID pathway, virtual ward initiatives, vaccination and enhanced services.

Working for the Chief Medical Officer, he was a developmental lead of the Welsh Government’s National Clinical Framework (March 2021).

He qualified as a GP in 1995 and became a partner in Tower Hamlets, then in Newport, Gwent. He has been an honorary lecturer at Cardiff University, and held several medical management roles including cluster lead in Newport West, clinical director in Aneurin Bevan UHB, and AMD for Primary Care & Community Services in Abertawe Bro Morgannwg UHB, where he was also interim Executive Medical Director.

He is currently also interim Deputy Medical Director of SBUHB, and Deputy Responsible Officer and Caldicott Guardian.
