Modify other risk factors to limit dementia onset or progression

  • Taking action to prevent or reduce coronary heart disease (LTC-001), heart failure (LTC-002), atrial fibrillation (LTC-003) and diabetes (LTC-004) may mitigate against the onset of dementia (Clin Epidemiol 2013;5: 135–145).
  • Other modifiable risk factors include air pollution, head injury, low educational attainment (WDH-001), hearing impairment and infrequent social contact (WHM-001); for more detail on potential interventions at population and individual levels see The Lancet Commissions 2020;396(10248);413-446.
