Professional development & training

The workforce's knowledge and skills in inclusion health are crucial in providing equitable services. In the UK, all four devolved administrations recognise the importance of incorporating the Inclusion Health into healthcare professionals' education and training. Each nation has issued guidelines to improve health outcomes for marginalised groups. However, recent studies have not found evidence of government departments or national organisations outlining a plan to ensure that healthcare professionals have the necessary knowledge and skills to care for vulnerable communities. According to evidence published by organisations employing staff who work with vulnerable groups, many healthcare practitioners have recognised the need to acquire the knowledge and skills to support service users from socially excluded communities.

Directory of Education and Training in Inclusion Health for Health Professionals

This directory is designed to help healthcare professionals identify education and training opportunities to help them meet the knowledge base for inclusion health and health inequalities.

A knowledge and skills framework for inclusion health for Wales is expected.

Welsh Inclusion health networks

All Wales Inclusion Health Nurses (AWIHN) Forum:
The AWIHN Forum provides a professional education, training, and discussion forum for nurses working in or with inclusion health populations.
Membership is open to any nurse working on or with inclusion health populations. Non-members may be invited to the group to present, lead, or participate in discussions for shared learning, education, and training purposes.
The forum meets quarterly, and meetings last for an hour unless extra time has previously been arranged at the group's request. Administrative and secretarial support to the forum is provided by Public Health Wales’s Primary Care Division.

Public Health Inclusion Health Network (PHIHN):
With a key focus on health inclusion populations, the PHIHN is a professional platform for local and national public health team members to share good practices, identify common priorities, opportunities and challenges and, where appropriate, make recommendations to embed best practices and influence policy. The Primary Care Division of Public Health Wales chairs and coordinates the network. Membership is open to anyone working in the Public Health System on Health Inequalities and inclusion health.

If you would like further information about the above networks or would like to join as members please contact our team by email.
