Every year, Welsh Government invests £3.8m of the £40m Primary Care Fund in the national pacesetter programme. The pacesetter programmes commenced in 2015 where 2-3 year funding was allocated to health boards to provide a systematic approach to testing and evaluating new and innovative ways of working to achieve the aims of the Primary Care Fund namely achieving sustainability, improving access, and delivering more care in the community. Further funding has been allocated to health boards annually to support further two year cycles of pacesetter projects. The aspirations of the programme are that where similar projects are identified across Wales, they will work together to test innovation in a number of themed areas.
